Buell Motorcycles is a US-based manufacturer founded by engineer and motorcycle racer Erik Buell in 1983. Buell motorcycles are mostly known for their unique engine design that combines the advantages of a four-stroke engine with the light weight and maneuverability of a two-stroke engine. As well, the cars feature several unconventional features like perimeter disk brakes and swingarm suspension systems.
Erik Buell was bought up by Harley Davidson in 2003, allowing those models to be produced on larger scales. He then left in 2009 to form Erik Buell Racing to produce lighter sport bikes from 2011 onwards until his death in 2015. The company continued until 2017 as EBR Motorcycles under new leadership before filing for bankruptcy due to poor sales and lack of investment.
